Biographical Description

John Wise Jones was born on October 26, 1863, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. A graduate of Shaw University and Leonard Medical School, Jones was an influential Black physician in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For seventeen years, he was Grand Chancellor of Colored Knights of Pythias. Jones died in Winston-Salem on May 3, 1928.
