Charles Mayer was born in Henrico County, Virginia on July 8, 1862. Mayer was an attorney and shipping magnate who maintained residences in Manhattan and Stockbridge, Massachusetts. In the 1910s, he served as general counsel for the London-based broker and investment firm of Linton, Clarke and Co. Mayer died in Paris, France on June 8, 1926.
