Biographical Description

Josiah Collins (August 1735-14 May 1819) was a merchant in Chowan County. In 1777 he signed an oath swearing his allegiance to the State of North Carolina and promised to report any treasonous conspiracies that might threaten North Carolina's independence. Later in 1779 he was appointed judge of the admiralty court for the Port of Edenton.
