Biographical Description

Thomas Ward (d. 1790) was a justice of the peace and a justice for the Bertie County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions. In 1777 he was ordered to administer the oath of allegiance to residents in Captain Freeman's district in order to make sure that North Carolina's independence was not threatened. In 1778 he signed his own oath swearing his allegiance to the State of North Carolina.
