Biographical Description

Thomas Clark (d. c1798) was a resident of Bertie County. In 1777 he refused to sign an oath of allegiance to the State of North Carolina and consequently had to sign a bond promising to leave the state within 60 days. His brother-in-law William Gray signed on as the security on his bond. Later that year, he wrote that he, and fellow Bertie County residents Thomas Bogg and Richard Jones planned to leave on Bogg's ship, the Free Mason. If he did leave, Clark later returned after the war, as his estate papers were later proved in Bertie County.
