John Hurst was a resident of Bertie County. In 1777 Daniel Leggett testified that John Hurst swore an oath and became a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy. Hurst then later appeared on a list of witnesses who could provide evidence against William Tyler, another member of the conspiracy.
