Biographical Description

John Hodge was a resident of Pitt County. In 1777 he took several oaths of secrecy and became a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy. Despite John Lewellen's orders that Hodge gather gun powder and ammunition and violently oppose the military draft if necessary, it does not appear that Hodge actively involved himself in the conspiracy. He later gave a deposition about his involvement after the plot was discovered.
