Biographical Description

William Collins was a resident of Martin County. He recruited several people for the Gourd Patch Conspiracy, usually convincing them to take an oath of secrecy and join the plot before urging them to seek out Daniel Leggett to take further oaths and learn more about the conspiracy's aims. Some members also testified that Collins had a copy of the group's constitution, which he presumably destroyed when the plot was uncovered.
