Biographical Description

Quentin Millen (c1734-1817) was a Scottish merchant who resided in Edenton. In 1777 he refused to take the oath of allegiance to the State of North Carolina and consequently had to leave the state. He met with Governor Richard Caswell in person to obtain a certificate authorizing him to leave and eventually sought refuge in New York City with other loyalists. He went to Nova Scotia for a brief time after the American Revolution, but returned to New York, where he resided for the rest of his life.
