Biographical Description

John Tilman served as a Major in the Craven County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia. When William Brimage, a prominent co-conspirator in the Gourd Patch Affair went on the run in July 1777, Governor Richard Caswell authorized Tilman to assist in Brimage's capture if necessary.
