Biographical Description

John Hunter (died 1786) was a militia colonel, public official, and merchant who resided in colonial-era Hampton, Virginia. During the Seven Years' War, he served as an agent of London merchants Thomlinson & Hanbury, a firm contracted by the British government to provide supplies and money to British forces in America. Hunter returned to London in 1766.
