Biographical Description

Francis Bernard (1712-1779) was a colonial administrator who served as governor of New Jersey (1758-1760) and Massachusetts (1760-1771). His reactions to the colonists' response to Parliamentary taxation deepened divisions between Parliament and the colonies.
