William Luton Shoffner was born on April 26, 1889, in Alamance County, North Carolina. Shoffner was engaged in sawmilling when he registered for the draft (World War I) in June 1917. He served with the 161st Depot Brigade until April 1918 and then Company B of the 313th Service Battalion until his discharge in July 1919. He was deployed overseas from May 1918 to June 1919. After the war, he worked for the Bethlehem Steel Company. Shoffner died in Burlington (Alamance County) on December 2, 1969.
