Biographical Description

George Washington Watts was born on August 18, 1851, in Cumberland, Maryland. Watts was an industrialist and philanthropist in Durham, North Carolina. During World War I, he was appointed by Gov. Thomas W. Bickett to serve on the North Carolina Council of Defense. Watts died in Durham on March 7, 1921.
