James Guy Steed was born on March 15, 1871, in Asheboro, North Carolina. Steed was for much of his life a salesman in Mount Gilead, North Carolina. During the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Steed served as the state compliance director for the National Recovery Act. He died in Greensboro on June 18, 1934.
