Herman Husband was born in Cecil County, Maryland on  3 October 1724 . In 1755 he moved to Orange County, North Carolina and between 1755 and 1762 acquired more than 10,000 acres in Orange and Rowan Counties. In 1762 he married Mary Pugh, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Pugh. In 1768 Husband served as the pamphleteer and spokesman of the Regulators, a group of North Carolina citizens who disagreed with unjust taxes, the unchecked power of corrupt government officials, and the complicated land grant system. He was present at the Hillsborough Riot in 1770 and at the Regulator encampment prior to the Battle of Alamance in 1771 though he fled before the fighting began and began a new life in Pennsylvania. During the American Revolution he supported the Patriot cause. He died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in about June 1795.
