Elizabeth Stroud was a resident of Orange County in May 1771 when the North Carolina Militia took her horse for use in the army during the War of Regulation. Elizabeth finally received compensation for the horse in 1773 when her relative, Joshua Stroud, helped her submit a claim. Elizabeth Stroud may have been the wife of Orange County planter William Doak Stroud, in which case she died in Orange County in about 1802.
