Teresa Roberts was born in North Carolina in about 1754. A resident of Chowan County, in 1772 she married ship captain John Cunningham, who based his business out of Edenton. In 1774 she signed a nonimportation agreement that later became known as the Edenton Tea Party Resolves. The location of her signature, as well as her maiden name indicates that she like was related to the three women named Elizabeth Roberts who signed the document below her. They were possibly her mother, sister, and sister-in-law, but a lack of birth or probate records makes it impossible to be certain. Following her husband's presumed death at sea in 1778, Teresa married Thomas Parker in 1779. She died sometime after 1779.
