Aaron McDuffie Moore was born in Columbus County, North Carolina, on September 6, 1863. A prominent physician in the Hayti community of Durham, Moore was co-founder and medical director of North Carolina Mutual. Like his peers, Moore focused his efforts on the uplift of Durham's black citizens, founding Lincoln Hospital in 1901 and the Durham Colored Library twelve years later. He died in Durham (Durham County) on April 29, 1923.
