Dan Hugh McLean was born near Lillington (Harnett County) on January 29, 1847. McLean was a Confederate veteran, Democratic politician, and attorney who served as a legislator representing Harnett County (1876-1877 & 1899-1900). During the administration of Governor Charles B. Aycock, McLean served as the secretary and treasurer for the North Carolina Railroad. He died in Lillington on July 10, 1921.
