Hayden Clement was born on September 25, 1879, in Mocksville, North Carolina. Clement was an attorney and legislator. He served as assistant attorney general (1907-1909) and acting attorney general for the state. From 1914 to 1923, he was solicitor of the Fifteenth Judicial District, in which position he assisted in the nationally-prominent Gaston Means case. Clement additionally served two terms as representative of Rowan County. He died in Salisbury on October 24, 1965.
