Colonel Middleton likely refers to Charles Starke Myddleton, a Colonel in the 2nd Regiment of South Carolina Dragoons who commanded troops during the Battle of Orangeburgh. Myddleton was a South Carolinian, and but it is possible he directed John B. Murray's North Carolina-based unit during the battle as Rosana Murray suggested in her widow's pension application. He was born in about 1755 and died sometime after 1790.
