Mamie C. Turner was born on November 3, 1873, in Wake County, North Carolina. Turner served as executive aide to seven state governors during the period 1916 to 1940: Locke Craig, Thomas W. Bickett, Cameron Morrison, Angus W. McLean, O. Max Gardner, J. C. B. Ehringhaus, and Clyde R. Hoey. Newspapers reported her responsibilities as including assigning Superior Court judges, handling extradition matters, keeping a record of the governors' appointments to boards and commissions, and issuing commissions to notaries public ("Miss Mamie Turner Dies," News and Observer (Raleigh), 21 December 1949). Turner died in Raleigh on December 20, 1949.
