John Reeves Jones Daniel was born outside of Halifax (Halifax County), North Carolina, on January 13, 1802. Daniel was an attorney and planter who served as a legislator (1831-1834), attorney general of the state (1834-1841), and U.S. Representative (1841-1853). He relocated to Louisiana sometime after leaving Congress. Daniel died in Shreveport, Louisiana, on June 22, 1868.
