Clifford Porter was born in Concord (Cabarrus County) on March 2, 1886. Porter was a pharmacist by trade, first in Concord then in Black Mountain (Buncombe County), where he moved in 1913. Porter was the owner of Black Mountain Drug Co. and also served as president of Commonwealth Bank and Trust. He died while visiting relatives in Concord on October 18, 1937.
