Battle, Samuel Westray

Biographical Description

Samuel Westray Battle was born in Nash County, North Carolina, on August 4, 1854. Battle was a physician in the United States Navy (1875-1884), director of the Clarence Barker Memorial Hospital in Biltmore (Buncombe County), and Surgeon General of the North Carolina National Guard (1909-1915). He died in Raleigh (Wake County) on April 29, 1927.
