Abram Oliver Bray was born in Elkin (Surry County), North Carolina, on January 8, 1882. Bray likely came from a wealthy family, as by his early thirties he owned several mills in Wilkes, Yadkin, and Surry Counties. He died in Greenville, South Carolina, on October 20, 1960.
