Edward Vincent Morton was born in Leasburg (Caswell County), North Carolina, on October 6, 1871. Morton was a insurance agent who purchased the Hickory Democrat in March 1913. He served as editor of the paper until he sold it in April 1916. Morton later relocated to Oklahoma where he worked as a merchant and postmaster until his death on August 20, 1937.
