Thomas Ward was a resident of Chowan County. In 1778 he signed an oath swearing his allegiance to the State of North Carolina and promised to report any treasonous conspiracies that might threaten North Carolina's independence. In the list of oath takers, he was identified as Thomas Ward, son of William, to differentiate him from other men that shared the same name.
