Biographical Description

Alexander Black (d. 1791) was a civil servant and resident of Chowan County. In 1777 he was summoned before Thomas Benbury to take an oath swearing his allegiance to the State of North Carolina and promised to report any treasonous conspiracies that might threaten North Carolina's independence. Later in 1778 Samuel Dickinson verified that Black had already taken the oath.
