Biographical Description

Penelope Stewart (née Daly) was a resident of Martin County. Her husband John Stewart was a merchant in Martin and Tyrrell Counties and couple had at least three children. In early July 1777 Daniel Leggett visited the Stewart home and spoke with Penelope about seeking to recruit John Stewart to become a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy.
