John Collins (d. c1802) was a resident of Martin County. In 1777 he became a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy and was probably recruited by Daniel Leggett, who stayed overnight at Collins' house. While he was a member, he was not actively involved in the plot, and when he learned from James Sherrard that the plot's ringleaders planned to kill some of the state's leading officials, he urged him to abandon the plot altogether. He later make a deposition about his knowledge of the plot to local county officials.
