Thomas Stewart (d. 1792) was a merchant and attorney from Tyrrell County. He represented the county in the North Carolina Colonial Assembly.(1773-1774). He later also represented Tyrrell at the North Carolina Constitutional Convention in 1788. In 1777 Jonathan Adams named him and Thomas' brother John as members of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy. Given that Thomas Stewart would have been at risk of losing his large landholdings if he were a member of the plot, that only one man named him, and that he continued to have a prominent and respected role in Tyrrell County society, it seems possible that he was either not a member (contrary to Adams' claim) or that he was able to avoid a treason charge.
