Thomas Garrett was a resident of Tyrrell County. In 1777 he swore an oath of secrecy before Daniel Leggett and became a member of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy. His wheat field was also an important location for the plot, as Thomas' brother John recruited several men to the plot when they visited the field to help tend crops including their relatives Stephen and Daniel Garrett.
