Biographical Description

Abner Nash (1740-1786) was a politician from New Bern who served speaker of the first session of the North Carolina General Assembly in 1777. He later served as the second governor of North Carolina from 1780-1781. In 1780 he granted William Brimage, an exiled co-conspirator in the Gourd Patch Affair, permission to see his family still residing in North Carolina.
