Biographical Description

Maurice Moore, Jr., (1735-1777) was an influential politician and jurist in colonial North Carolina. Moore served as representative of Brunswick (town) in the General Assembly (1757–59, 1762, 1764, 1766–68, 1770–71, & 1773), a member of the royal council (1760-1761), and superior court justice (1763-1772). During the struggle with the Regulator Movement, Moore served as colonel of the Gentlemen Volunteer Light Dragoons and chaired an Assembly committee that recommended swift, stern action to put down the Regulators.
