Minor Staily Mills (also known by Ulon Staley Mills) was born on January 3, 1895, in Apex, North Carolina. Mills was a nurse at the State Hospital in Raleigh when he registered for the draft (World War I) in June 1917. He was subsequently inducted into the service in August 1918 and served with the 7th Regiment Field Artillery (replacement) at Camp Jackson, South Carolina, until honorably discharged on December 11, 1918. He died in Raleigh (Wake County) on November 6, 1983.
