Ireland-born Edward Brice Dobbs (1729-1803) was the son of royal governor of North Carolina Arthur Dobbs and a British army officer. During the Seven Years War, he served as a captain in the North Carolina militia and commanded two companies in Edward Braddock's maneuvers in Virginia. From 1757 to 1759, he served as a royal councilor of North Carolina. In 1759, Dobbs left the province. He spent most of the remainder of his life in Carrickfergus, Ireland.
