Thomas Contee Bowie was born on July 27, 1876, in Lake St. Joseph, Louisiana. A lawyer by trade, Bowie was an on-again, off-again Democratic member of the state’s General Assembly from about 1908 to 1935. He died in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, on November 12, 1947.
