Alvin Paul Kitchin was born on April 24, 1873, in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. Kitchin was the brother of former governor William Walton Kitchin and U. S. Representative Claude Kitchin. A lawyer by training and profession, Kitchin served three terms in the General Assembly of North Carolina: 1907 and 1909 in the house and 1911 in the senate. He died in Seven Springs (Wayne County) on June 28, 1923.
