John Hardy Darden was born on February 21, 1850, in Halifax County, North Carolina. Darden was a farmer by profession who served as a legislator representing Halifax County for four consecutive terms beginning in 1915. In 1917, he served on a joint legislative committee charged with investigating the condition of the state's prison system. He died in Halifax County on March 7, 1934.
