Yours 22d. August last is at hand you inform me the recieving the Supplemental Declaration of Mrs. Huldah Hill widow of John Hill deceased, I have conversed with the widow you also mention the affidavit of George Hammon in Proof of her Marriage to said Hill and Hills Services after Marriage you made no mention of the Affidavit of James Duncan in Proof of her Marriage, he Duncan nine or ten years old at the time too circumstances which he well recollects & no doubt will as long as he lives as to dates weeks months & Years passing at that time he appears to have no positive recollection. You also mention Proof of Service Subsequent to Marriage & of identity will also be indispensable before the Service described in the Certificate of the Secretary of State of North Carolina Can be allowed as having been performed by the Claimants husband. I agree that those Proofs You ask for are necessary was it in the power of this widow to furnish them but it appears not, and it cannot be exspected of this widow at the present day She States too or three years & She believes hearing her husband say he was Marched once to Norfolk in Virginia who was his officers or what he was Marched therefor whether his Services was of the line of this State She does not recollect, it appears there was three John Hills enlisted in the tenth regiment of the line of State of North Carolina different dates & different length of Service all Served & all discharged John Hill which this widow Claims the service of appears to be the first enlisted for three years, this widow and her husband raised near too hundred Miles apart & at the time this Service was performed & before they had no acquaintence & She has resided ever since the same distance it cannot be resonable to Suppose She can at the present day Prove that her husband is the identical Man that performed the Service which She Claims any other way than she has done the Proofs are before you if you have the Proof of those other John Hills, or their widows You must judge and deside there is a decision to take place these old People their time is short here decide & let me know
