On the 3th. day of February 1838, Personally appeared before me James Gordon one of the acting Justice of the Peace in & for the County aforesaid Huldah Hill of said County widow of John Hill who was a Soldier of the Army of the Revolution who first being duly sworn according to Law doth on her oath make the following Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Provision made by the Act of Congress July the 4th. 1836, in favour of the widows of the deceased Soldiers of the Army of the Revolution who had remained unmarried She States that She had remained a widow ever since and for two or three years service in ^the^ Continenttal line in this state before Marriage & three Months after Marriage as well as now recollected ^which she claims a Pension^ she states that she was born in the above County the 7th. day of February 1764 & here resided ever since. John Hill her husband was born the 4th. day of February 1749, In Hallifax County in the above State & reaised & there resided at the Commencement of the Revolution as well as recollected till the fore part of year before Genl. Gates was defeated in South Carolina he came to Anson County & Married the Petitioner Huldah Jackson & immediately after Gates was defeated many People fled from here for safety & her husband Carried her to his friends in Hallifax County in a short time returned to Anson County & was immediately drafted for thee Months service & her brother Isaac Jackson under her brother Jonathan Jackson Capt. her Father John Jackson was a Colo. & she thinks at the time was in service to the South Capt. Jackson marched his men immediately & at a place called Betty's Bridge & at the time crossing the Bridge was attacted by the Torys her brother the Capt. was shot with a ball broke his Collar bone & lodged in his Shoulder & was left on the place her brother Isaac was shot in the mouth the ball ranged in the side knocked out the most of his Teeth on that side he escaped being taken her husband endeavoring to escape & dending himself received several wounds on the head with the sword out was taken Prisoner with a number of others on their march to Wilmington he was Paroled on account of wounds not to serve again & her husband returned home the above is the best of her recollecttion which she had from her husband & brothers she does not recollect her husband or brothers enterd the service again she does not believe her husband or brothers was ever on the Pension roll or received a Pension hir Father & Brothers died Years past she resided near the place whereon she was born & raised & one Mile of the Place whereon hir husband first settled on after marriage there he resided when he died which was the 14th. day of August 1817—She states that she is too infirm at her stage of life to attend a Court of record other Proofs may be had by the Certificates hereunto annexed.
