His Excellency:
Governor Locke Craig:
Raleigh N.C.
Dear sir:-
Under the law governing the proceeding which we have had, to secure these lands for the State, there is no compensation allowed, as I find it, for the Clerk of the Court in handling the funds. He has had to disburs about $14 000. and for this he has not up to the present been allowed one cent.
He has had his fees as clerk of the court which amount to a very small item. I feel that this responsibility and the time and vexation should be paid for. If you will pass a voucher ofr $100. in his behalf we will prepare and approve it and forward same to you. If you will decline it we do not want to send it to you. Please advise,
Yours cordially,
