I have not yet been able to locate the deed to the land on Mitchell's peak. At Mr. Richard Battle's death all the deeds and other papers that he had belonging to the University were supposed to have been sent here to Chapel Hill to the new treasurer, but there are several papers which did not seem to be in those forwarded. Whether Mr. Battle originally had them or not we do not know. Mr. Woollen is going over all the papers very carefully straightening them out and we are in hopes that we may locate the deed. Dr. Kemp Battle seems to be very positive about it.
