July 17th. 1777}
James Holles came before us Justices Assigned to keep the Peace for this County & being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God Deposeth & Saith that he was at the house of John Everet about three Weeks agoe, John Everet took him out of his from his house, some distance, then asked this Deponent if he could keep a Secret & would swear to it which he agreed to & Everet swore him to Secrecy & gave him a Stick but no sign to carry to Daniel Legate who swore this Deponent to the Constitution, he heard Legate ofer Thomas Rogers a Commission for Soliciter in the Society which said Rogers refused & further this deponent saith not

That the said James Holles do appear at the first Court of Oyer & Terminer to be held for the District of Edenton
