We are herewith enclosing copy of our letter forwarded to the Adjutant General, in which we ask that he advise with you upon the subject of the letter. In addition to the embarrassment to us, as a Board resulting from the way this case has been handled by the War Department, we assume, as we are without knowledge as to the facts of the case, that is the procedure by which this furlough was given, the cause of same, by whom granted, or at whose instance. We have reliable information that the matter is to be made an issue by the Republicans in the county and district fight, the same to be used just before election. We do not think matters of politics should enter into the draft question from any standpoint, and have not permitted it to do so in the least. We merely sight this fact as evidence that this case is one of more than usual moment and concern to the well-thinking people of this county. We trust that an investigation may be asked, to the end that the matter may be clarified, and if there is anything irregular or discriminatory, that the same be corrected.
