Private Junius O. Turnage,
Motor Truck Co. No. 1.
Camp Sevier, Greenville, S.C.

My dear Mr. Turnage:-

Your mother is in my office and has handed to me the written statement made out by herself in regard to conditions at home, also a letter from Dr. J. S. Barbee and a letter from Mr. R. W. Lee. I am satisfied that the statements contained in all three of these papers are absolutely correct. You will understand, of course, that the Governor is without any authority to even ask for your discharge. You must ask yourself through your company commander, Capt. Boylan. I advise you to go to him at once, ask for a blank application for a discharge and get him to show you how to fill out the application, and attach to the application the three papers that I am sending you. Capt. Boyland will then forward your application through regular military channels to the Commanding General of the Camp who will pass upon your application. If the application is granted you will, of course, be discharged at once and be allowed to return home.

If the application should not be granted then you ought at once to assign $7.50 of your pay to your mother Lula Turnage Green and $7.50 to your step-father, Jos. G. Green. When you have made this assignment the Government will then send $7.50 to your mother and $7.50 to your father. Be careful to make the assignment as above directed. This is necessary in order to get the full amount of $15.00 paid by the Government to your father and mother.

I hope you can secure your discharge, and the latter part of this letter is written only in the event of your failure to do so.

Very truly yours,

[unsigned]
