Hon. A. M. Scales,
Greensboro, N.C.

My dear Alf:-

I am just in receipt of a letter from Mr. Gibson in which he says that Mr. Finch told him over the phone that you had been appointed a member of the District Board upon the condition that you should be made Chairman, and that the offices should be removed to Greensboro. I am sending you a copy of the letter that I wrote to Mr. Gibson in reply. I am sure that you will agree with my recollection of this matter. Of course I understood that Mr. Finch, Dr. Bell and yourself would probably be in favor of removing the offices to Greensboro, and as stated in my letter to Mr. Gibson such a removal would meet with my entire approval. My recollection is that I authorized you to say this much to the other members.

Again thanking you for your unselfish patriotism, I beg to remain,

Sincerely yours,

[unsigned]
