District Bd [handwritten at top]

Mr. E. T. Cansler,
Charlotte, N.C.

My dear Mr. Cansler:-

Your letter received, and I endeavored to get into telephonic communication with Mr. Keerans, but the office in Charlotte advised me that he was “Some-where” in the western part of the State and could not be located. Today I received a letter from District Attorney Hammer strongly endorsing Mr. Finch of Randolph as your successor, and saying that Mr. Finch has a genius for systematic business, and he has made a most excellent Chairman of the Randolph county local exemption board. It occurs to me that by reason of his experience as chairman of the local board, and his systematic business methods that he would be a most desirable man on the board, and I am appointing him in your place. Your resignation will take effect as soon as I am advised of his acceptance.

I desire to express to you my profound appreciation for the generous and patriotic work you have done as a member of this Board.

Wishing you every happiness, I beg to remain,

Sincerely yours,

[unsigned]
